Meet Siren
If you asked her where she came from, she’d probably laugh & shrug her shoulders & tell you a different story every time.
Some days the story starts with her being born & raised in the clouds among the angels. Other days, she was brought into this life beneath a cherry blossom tree. Once she even admitted to being born from pure sunshine. Whatever the truth may be, one thing has always remained the same & that is that Siren has always been impossibly curious. The kind of curiosity that makes you wander into the woods alone just to follow a sound only you heard or explore abandoned buildings at the caution of others. The kind of curiosity that almost always gets you into trouble.
In truth, she never meant to find the shrine. All she remembered doing that day was going for a walk through the old woods behind her cottage & before she realized it, night had fallen & there she stood at the base of an old decrepit church. The air around it felt… wrong. The wind quieted, the bugs stilled. Nothing moved. Every instinct in her pleaded with her to turn around.
Instead… she stepped inside.
As she explored the church & soon found herself within the darkest parts of its basement, she found a shrine against the furthest wall. A small black crystal rested at the center, glowing ever so faintly. Despite the state of the church, it remained untouched. It was beautiful.
Naturally…
She touched it.
The warmth disappeared from her body in an instant, her eyes shut as fear enveloped her body as something dark… something… evil seemed to wrap itself around her soul like smoke, whispering promises she couldn’t understand.
When she finally opened her eyes again, the feeling disappeared. She felt… normal. So she convinced herself nothing had happened, that her mind was playing tricks on her. So she left.
She was wrong.
Days passed before she began noticing the changes. Her patience became shorter, her temper flared at the tiniest of things. Then, in place of her precious cat ears… were horns. Then the tail.. Then the wings… When she looked in the mirror, the eyes that greeted her weren’t her own.
Whatever this was, it had found its home. It wasn’t trying to kill her, no no.
It was trying to become her.
Siren did her best to fight it, truly.
Every outburst, every bad day, every moment she felt overwhelmed gave the curse another chance to surface. She feared that this version of herself that stared back in the mirror - the one with light pink eyes & a grin that seemed to know something she didn’t.
Despite all of her research, Siren found no cure, no way to rid herself of this demon that clung to her. So… over time. She stopped fighting it. Instead, she learned to live beside it. It was always there, waiting.
Quietly,
Patiently.
Most days, Siren is exactly who she’s always been.
A ragdoll cat with a crazy sweet tooth, an unhealthy obsession with anything pink, a closet overflowing with outfits because, honestly, life is too short to wear the same thing every day, and a love for gaming.
To be honest, dressing up was Siren’s best form of expression. Not a day went by that she wasn’t dressed in some new way to impress those around her. Some days she feels more elegant, other days she’d rather be a goth menace. Every outfit tells a different story. None of them are disguises.
Every version is still Siren.
Especially the demon.
Because no matter how hard she tried, she could never separate that darkness from herself. It had simply become another piece of who she was.
As the years passed, Siren discovered something rather… unexpected.
As she branched out & started her adventures as a streamer… as she escaped into other worlds through her games… the whispers grew quiet.
Whether she was exploring ancient kingdoms, running from ghosts, or struggling to survive with her friends…
The curse loosened its grip. Just for a little while, she could breathe.
Gaming wasn’t just a hobby to her anymore.
It became her sanctuary.
Every adventure gave her mind somewhere safe to rest.
Every victory reminded her that she was so much stronger than the voice hiding inside her, begging to come out.
And every defeat…well… It always made for a funny story.
Eventually though, Siren realized something even more powerful than games helped to calm those voices in her mind.
People.
The ones who showed up to every stream. The ones who laughed with her, celebrated her victories, cried with her through her losses, comforted her through her rough days, and never questioned why sometimes she looked just a little bit different than she did the day before…
They welcomed every version of her.
The sweet one.
The chaotic one.
The exhausted one.
The demon.
The cat.
All of them.
They became her sweetlings & strays.
Not because they needed saving, but because they had all found one another. A collection of wandering souls who, despite all odds, ended up in the same place.
Together.
These days, the curse still lingers. It always will.
Sometimes the horns appear when emotions run high & thus the demon takes over for a while. And sometimes… just sometimes Siren wakes up & feels like embracing that darker side of herself.
She’s stopped apologizing for it. It’s who she is.
After all..
Light & darkness can exist in the same heart.
One can’t exist without the other.
So if by chance you happen to stop by her little corner of the world, you’ll probably find a dolled up ragdoll cat with a sweet in one hand, a controller in the other, and an adventure waiting to begin.
And if, every now and then, her eyes glow a little brighter…
Or a pair of horns begin to peek through her hair…
Don’t worry.
She’s still Siren.
She’s just having one of those days.
